Do unto others as you would have them do unto you

What would Jesus do?

You be the judge.  Faced with millions of Africans inflicted with AIDS and rampant growth of the disease transmitted by sexual contact, would Jesus rely on sexual abstinence to solve the problem?  I can't presume to know the answer, so I'll leave it up to you to reach your own conclusion.

The very powerful leader of the largest Christian religious group in the world has decreed the answer.  Do you agree or disagree with him?  The answer could have a powerful effect on the lives of millions of innocent Africans.

This same leader is very outspoken on the right to life of the unborn child, but seems to have a very different view on the right to life of millions of others.

I personally am having difficulty reconciling these two views.  When I apply the test of "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" I come to a very different conclusion.

Pope: AIDS Is the Best Prophylactic

By Air America

Taking a page out of George W. Bush’s sex education playbook, Pope Benedict XVI said on Tuesday that sexual abstinence is the best way to fight the spread of AIDS and condoms would only widen the problem.

While aboard his plane headed towards Cameroon, the Pope stated, “You can't resolve it with the distribution of condoms, on the contrary, it increases the problem.”

At least 22 million people in sub-Saharan Africa are infected with H.I.V. but Rebecca Hodes from Treatment Action Campaign in South Africa believes Pope Benedict’s approach to fighting against new H.I.V infections is not a serious one since “his opposition to condoms conveys that religious dogma is more important to him than the lives of Africans."
