Married William Hubert Crawford

Helen was born Mamye Helen Bartlett but never used her first name or even spoke of it. She was the daughter of Alfred and Zona Bartlett and grew up on their farm on Falling Water River outside of Cookeville, TN. She married James Ed Cochran (born 20 June 1898) from Lyles, TN at the age of seventeen and had two girls before obtaining a divorce about ten years later.

Helen lived on the farm with her children and farmed with her parents until she married Hubert Crawford. The Bartletts raised vegetables and sold them at the Cookeville curb market next to the police station. Hubert Crawford was the Chief of Police and widowed. Hubert Crawford owned a small farm on the eastern side of Cookeville where they lived until he died, continuing to raise cattle, horses, and a large garden.

When Hubert Crawford died, Helen moved into a house in a subdivision in Cookeville, continuing to raise flowers and a good sized garden until 92 years of age. She quit driving her car at about 91.
